Although I am Italian, Halloween-themed recipes have always attracted me with a smile and I have to admit that, since my girls take part actively not only in the practical phase of preparation, but also in the inventive brainstorming background, I live it all with happiness and joy!
If we also add all the “scary” decoration we prepare, the picture becomes really interesting because it’s just an extra opportunity to add quality time together to our backpack of beautiful things!
So today I’ll tell you about this small but DELICIOUS IDEA FOR HALLOWEEN DINNER: MONSTER SAVORY PIES! We can say: between mummies and monsters…
“Bandages” of shortcrust pastry hides a rich filling of PUMPKIN, MUSHROOMS, SMOKED BACON AND RED ONIONS with two (NOT SCARY) MONSTER EYES of cheese and black olives!

MONSTROUS PUMPKIN PIE: HALLOWEEN SAVORY RECIPE
Ingredients
- 3 rolls of shortcrust pastry
- 50 g thinly sliced ​​red onions
- 100 g mushrooms thinly sliced
- 200 g cleaned pumpkin cut into small pieces
- 60 g smoked bacon
- 120 g fresh cream
- salt
- pepper
- 3 slices of cheese I used a smoked sheep cheese
- 4 black olives
Instructions
- Pour a drop of oil into a large non-stick pan and add the onions, mushrooms and pumpkin: mix, add salt, pepper, cover and cook for 5 minutes over high heat.
- Add the smoked bacon and cream, mix, cover again and continue cooking 5 minutes more.
- Turn off and let cool.
- In the meantime, cut out 16 circles from the slices of cheese to form the eyes of our monsters and slice the olives to get the pupil.
- Unroll the shortcrust pastry discs and use them to line the base of 8 tart molds.
- Knead the scraps gettig a ball, roll it out with a rolling pin and cut out many strips that will form the “bandages” of our mummies / monsters.
- Fill the base of the pies with the pumpkin filling and cover with the strips of shortcrust pastry in an irregular way.
- Let it rest in the refrigerator while the oven reaches temperature: 200 ° C ventilated mode.
- Cook the monstrous pumpkin pies for 25 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, allow to cool, decorate with eyes and serve at room temperature!
Notes
- You can prepare the tarts a day in advance by storing them in the refrigerator well sealed with aluminum.
- You can reheat them the next day (obviously without cheese eyes), taking care to serve them at room temperature to prevent them from melting!
